Reglazing … Refinishing … What is it?

There are a lot of companies that use the universal terms “reglazing” or “refinishing”, but not all the methods are the same, nor result in the same level of quality.  At Taken for Granite OC, we encourage our clients to ask questions about our products and services.

Our process results in a durable, attractive finish on a variety of surfaces, including countertops, appliances, porcelain items, fiberglass showers and tubs – almost any kitchen, bath or even outdoor project can benefit from our process.

Porcelain, in its original state, requires the application of high heat in an industrial kiln to achieve its durable, high-gloss effect.Don’t be fooled by contractors who offer simple surface applications which will not mirror the durability of the original surface.  Some contractors will even use such lower quality solutions such as basic automotive paint, which will peel, discolor and will not withstand high-use areas such as kitchens and baths.

Taken for Granite OC utilizes high-performance formulations, specifically designed for the kitchen and bath industry.  Our reglazing method produces a hard, durable finish that will not yellow with age, and which has a look and feel very much like a true, kiln-fired porcelain finish.  Our service is backed by a 5-year warranty, and since we use products and processes proven to be durable over years of application, you can be certain that Taken for Granite OC will be the right choice for your project.

How Do We Do It?
Before each project, our team consults with the client to determine the specific needs and usage patterns for each project, and discusses color and finish choices.

Our Process in Brief:
  • The project surface is thoroughly cleaned with industrial cleaners to remove any soap scum, mineral buildup, surface films, etc.
  • The work area is masked and prepped to insure cleanliness and minimal impact to the bathroom and kitchen areas, including ducted exhaust to minimize vapors.
  • Any chips, holes, cracks and damaged areas are repaired and filled with waterproof compounds.
  • The entire surface is primed with a bonding agent.  This is a key step, often skipped by our competitors, which insures that our products create superior adhesion and durability without surface etching, resulting in a superior finish.
  • Once fully prepared for maximum adhesion, the surface is sprayed with two-part high-tech acrylic coating that hardens to form a new shiny surface that looks and feels like the original porcelain.
  • Masking is removed when the surface has cured enough to wet sand any residual imperfections in refinished surface, and then buffed back to a high gloss shine.
  • Prep materials are removed, fixtures are reinstalled, and the area is left in its original condition – but better with a like-new countertop or bath!
